Often when creating melodies we might wish to hear how something sounds at different pitches. The difference between a melody transposed 1 octave higher or a bass pattern 1 octave lower than was initially programmed, might make all the difference to that track, but it can be a pain to go back into the MIDI every time and transpose it up or down an octave each time. This is where our Octave Tranposer tool comes in handy.
What is it?
Octave Transposer is a versatile MIDI effect rack that allows you to quickly jump between different octaves and/or layer melodies by 12 semitone intervals. Programmed the notes of any melody in the wrong place or want to experiment how it sounds 1 octave either side, this tool allows you to do just that with ease. In addition, this tool can be used to layer MIDI patterns across different octaves. For example, creating wider chords that span more than 1 octave, or layering a bass with the same pattern 1 octave up.
How to install and use this rack?
To install, navigate to your user library and locate where your MIDI Effect racks are stored. Then drop this .adg file in that folder and open it in your next session.
Its use is fairly simple but here is our suggestion. Load the rack as you would any MIDI Effect onto a MIDI rack. By default, every layer is muted apart from the root note. To transpose simply unmute or solo the layer of your choice which will move your melody up or down by the noted number of semitones from -24 to +24. If you wish to layer different octaves, simply unmute or solo more than one layer. Any questions let us know.

The rack uses only Ableton's native MIDI effect pitch and requires Ableton Live Suite v11.1.6 or higher.
